Hemorrhoids can present more problems than most people might think. Sure, they may start out being a little annoying at most. Before long, though, they can become downright painful. With the pain that occurs when you sit for long, whether at a desk for work, a ballgame for your kids, or a long car ride for the vacation you have been waiting for, you may find that you are enjoying the things you used to enjoy much less.
When hemorrhoid problems get out of hand, there may be a more aggressive hemorrhoids treatment necessary to take are of the problem. If your hemorrhoid problem has been recurring, with the pain and itching becoming worse with each episode, or if there is bleeding associated with them, you may need to talk to your doctor about taking steps that will be more likely to end the problem.
Hemorrhoid surgery and a newer treatment called PPH (Procedure for Prolapsed Hemorrhoid) all have the proven track record of being successful in treating hemorrhoid problems successfully. Some of these procedures may require a short hospital stay. Others may be done on an outpatient basis. All of them are much more invasive than hemorrhoid medication or home remedies.
Traditional hemorrhoid surgery may require an overnight hospital stay. Before the surgery, the patient is put on a special diet that will help get the bowels ready. You may possibly receive an enema and need to take laxatives to clean out the anal canal and the lower GI tract before surgery. The surgery consists of tying off the blood supply to the hemorrhoid and then taking the hemorrhoid out. Sometimes a little bit of tissue surrounding the hemorrhoid will also be removed. It is likely that you will be in pain and uncomfortable for a few days after the surgery. Pain medication may be prescribed. Hemorrhoid surgery has a good rate of success with eliminating the hemorrhoid for good.
PPH is a procedure that may be done on an outpatient basis most of the time. It requires lifting up the tissue in the anal canal. This is supposed to reduce the blood flow to the internal hemorrhoid area. When the blood flow is reduced, the hemorrhoid will shrink. It may take anywhere from a month to a month and a half to see complete healing of the hemorrhoid. PPH is known to be less invasive. There is less pain during recovery too, and with the same great results that traditional surgery has.
Whatever hemorrhoids treatment you need to make sure your problem is taken care of, these procedures are both proven to be successful and offer long lasting results. Taking the time and caution to decide along with your doctor, which one is best for your situation will be well worth it.
