Preventing Thrombosed Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are varicose veins in the rectum or anal area. When the vein develops a blood clot, it is then a thrombosed hemorrhoid. The pain and discomfort associated with thrombosed hemorrhoids is considered to be much worse than with mild hemorrhoids. It is also much more dangerous for you to have a hemorrhoid become thrombosed, it can even be life threatening if not taken care of immediately.

The best treatment for thrombosed hemorrhoids is prevention. The ideal way to prevent hemorrhoids from becoming thrombosed is to prevent the hemorrhoids from forming at all. The key is knowing what to do for the best possibility of preventing hemorrhoids and knowing how to treat them early enough so they will heal quickly.

Prevention

Constipation is the most common cause of hemorrhoids. Making sure you have regular bowel movements that are easy to pass is important in hemorrhoid prevention. You can do this by making sure that you eat a diet high in fiber, and drink enough water to keep things moving easily.

It is also important to go to the bathroom as soon as you feel the need. When you try to hold it for a while, your stools are more likely to become hard, making them more difficult to pass. This can make it more likely that you will strain when you have a bowel movement, and put unnecessary pressure on the anus and  rectum. You can actually create a hemorrhoid by doing this, pushing too hard so that the vein becomes inflamed and irritated.

When you go to the bathroom, use toilet paper that is free of irritants such as perfumes and dyes. Wear clothing that isn’t skin tight especially pants. Cotton underwear is best because it actually allows air to pass through you and your clothing.

If you are a little more easily irritated in that area, try wiping with baby wipes or a damp cloth that is soft to the skin, rather than harsh toilet paper.

Treating Mild Hemorrhoid Symptoms

If you already have some mild hemorrhoid symptoms, you can prevent them from escalating into becoming thrombosed hemorrhoids. Treat the symptoms as soon as you notice them. You can use witch hazel compresses to soothe the area and relieve itching and pain. You could also use aloe vera gel to help heal the area.

If you have to sit or stand for long periods of time, try moving around as much as you can. You may also want to consider either a medicated or all natural hemorrhoid cream to offer relief and bring down any inflammation in the area.

Taking care of mild hemorrhoids will help keep them from becoming thrombosed. Preventing them is much easier than treating them.
